Arbor and Pergola Contractor Coquitlam
After Coquitlam Deck Builders has finished installing a custom deck for you, there could be some complementary structures that we can add to your property as well. A fairly unique piece that also brings a little wow factor to your yard is an arbor or pergola. The names for these structures are typically used fairly interchangeably as they do have some similarities. But they are two distinct types of landscape structures and we want to go over each one to see what could be the best fit for your property.
Pergola - A pergola is typically built larger than an arbor as they are made to fit over decks and patios to form an enclosure from the elements. Pergolas can be made from many different materials such as wood, vinyl, or metal. There are creative ways to generate shade for pergolas through climbing plants, vines, or covers like linen, shades, and bamboo. While pergolas are typically connected to another structure -such as your house, garage, or backyard shed-, you can build standalone pergolas as well. The most common pergola build is with four or more posts/columns that act as the pillars of support for the structure. The roof section is either designed in a crisscrossed pattern or made of slats and beams that are spaced equally. For added privacy and flair, you can even add a lattice design on a side. The main function of a pergola is to create an outdoor space that you can enjoy. Seating can be built in during the initial construction phase or placed afterwards. Lighting can be installed as well via fixed lighting or hanging lights. This can be a nice little way to create some ambiance. As this is your own outdoor living room, you are free to customize it in anyway you can think of. Arbor - Arbors on the other hand are usually built to be a bit smaller than a pergola and is more of a seating area for your garden. The construction is fairly similar to a pergola and as previously mentioned, usually on the smaller end. A pergola is more of an outdoor room where an arbor is more of an outdoor doorway/entrance. Arbors are typically freestanding but can be attached to a fence as well. Some arbors can even come with a gate which can create a secluded atmosphere for your garden. Many of our clients enjoy having a small seating area incorporated into their design. A more traditional designed arbor will also include a lattice design which allows for climbing plants and vines to be displayed around the arbor. Arbors can be made from metal, vinyl, and of course wood. Our team has built many different custom arbors and pergolas that have gone alongside our custom built decks or as a standalone structure. While it may not seem like a large addition to yard, it can really stand out and add a new dimension to your landscape.
